Company History & Evolution

SL Extract was founded in 2019 by entrepreneur and legal professional Dayan Poornika Galmangoda Guruge. With a B.Sc. in Biotechnology and an M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Nirmani Thilakarathna brings a deep academic and professional foundation to our manufacturing process. Her specialized background allows SL Extract to bridge the gap between complex biological science and consumer safety.

Our core vision for the company was to bridge indigenous Sri Lankan ingredients with modern food science.

The goal was to transform traditional agricultural products into high-value, tech-driven, functional beverages, modernizing traditional practices while supporting local cultivation.

The company began its journey as a basic fruit juice manufacturing operation, utilizing standard plastic bottle packaging to serve the local market.

Recognizing the need for environmental responsibility and commercial modernization, the company underwent a radical strategic shift. Over the years, SL Extract completely transformed its production philosophy by moving away from traditional plastic packaging and embracing a zero-waste, fully sustainable approach across all packaging items. This evolution effectively turned the business into an eco-friendly leader in the functional beverage sector.

Built on Purpose, Driven by Grit

SL Extract is not merely the narrative of a single individual, nor is it just a collection of personal anecdotes. It is a testament to high moral intention, unyielding consistency, and the relentless hard work of deeply principled people driven by courage and strength of character.

It is the story of an enterprise that refused to take the easy path, choosing instead to pioneer an ethical, sustainable future for industrial manufacturing in Sri Lanka.

Key Milestones & Structural Growth

  • 2019 (Founding): Launched as a grassroots beverage manufacturer specializing in basic natural fruit juices packed in plastic bottles.

  • The Technical Shift: To eliminate artificial preservatives and achieve long-term shelf-life stability, the company invested heavily in modern food science. This included implementing precise quality metrics (pH and Brix control) and advanced retort processing to guarantee food safety while retaining natural nutritional profiles.

  • Late 2025 (Global Compliance): Marking a massive leap into international safety standards, SL Extract officially achieved ISO 22000:2018, HACCP, and GMP certifications. Backed by rigorous team dedication and a major infrastructure overhaul, this positioned the facility as a world-class manufacturing hub.

  • 2026 (Premium B2B Expansion): Moving upscale into the premium health market, the company launched advanced product lines, including “Soma Elixir”, designed for premium B2B partnerships and wellness-oriented consumers.

Strategic Contributions to Society & Agriculture

SL Extract operates on a core mission to drive rural industrialization and add immense economic value to the local agricultural sector.

1. Agricultural Value Addition

Instead of letting local crops face seasonal wastage or low-value raw exports, SL Extract processes fresh regional fruits into premium, tech-driven functional beverages. This high-tier processing boosts the commercial value of local crops, ensuring that raw agricultural yields command a much higher price point in the commercial market.

2. Sustaining the Rural Economy

By establishing manufacturing operations that source directly from regional farmers, the company creates a dependable, fair-trade supply chain. This injects consistent income into farming communities, stabilizes rural livelihoods, and curbs urban migration by creating skilled technical jobs within the village infrastructure.

3. Innovation in Zero-Waste & Sustainability

Transitioning to a zero-waste beverage production model serves as a blueprint for sustainable manufacturing in Sri Lanka. By eliminating single-use plastic bottles and engineering eco-friendly packaging alternatives, the company actively reduces industrial plastic pollution and promotes a circular green economy.
